On 13 November 1973, Jimmy Mackay scored the goal that booked Australia its place in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. The Socceroos drew tournament host West Germany, East Germany and Chile. In Hamburg, the Socceroos lost their opening match 2-0 to East Germany, but were not disgraced.
Four days later, West Germany defeated the Socceroos 3-0. Against Chile in Berlin, the Socceroos claimed a 0-0 draw and a maiden World Cup point.
This design honours all 22 pioneers in the 1974 World Cup squad.
