Adrian "Noddy" Alston was born on 6 February 1949 in Preston, England. Alston began his career as a youth player with Preston North End before moving to Australia in 1968. Upon his arrival, Alston signed a contract with South Coast United, staying one season before moving to St George Budapest then onto Safeway United.
He was an integral part of the Australian national team setup and played up front for the Socceroos at the 1974 FIFA World Cup to much praise from coach, Rale Rasic. Noddy attracted international attention and signed for England's Luton Town, scoring eight goals in 29 matches. He moved to Cardiff City in Wales the following season and scored 16 goals in 48 matches.
In 1977, Noddy joined the world famous North American Soccer League - home of ageing superstars Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer and Johan Cruyff. He played one season with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, wooing crowds and joining the party.
Noddy returned home to play one season in the newly formed Philips Soccer League under former Socceroos teammate, Johnny Warren, before retiring. He coached a number of teams located on the South Coast of New South Wales for over 20 years.
This design is a tribute to the NASL and Noddy's one season putting on a show with the stars.
