On their way to Australia's first-ever FIFA World Cup, the Socceroos played three friendly (or warm-up) matches in Switzerland - Zurich, Berne and Brugg - winning 4-1 against FC St. Gallen, 2-0 against BSC Young Boys and 1-0 against Neuchatel Xamax.
This design highlights the Socceroos' 4-1 victory in Zurich. Allan Maher (GK), Doug Utjesenovic, Peter Wilson, John Watkiss, Harry Williams, Jim Mackay, Jimmy Rooney, Johnny Warren, Attila Abonyi, Adrian Alston and Ernie Campbell took the field on 4 June 1974. Alston scored a second-half hat-trick.
The Socceroos began their campaign at the Finals in West Germany on 14 June.
