Australian international Emily Gielnik, 27, secured a contract with FC Bayern Frauen. A prolific striker in Australia's W-League, Gielnik leaves her club, Melbourne Victory, to join the Bavarians with ambitions of winning the Frauen-Bundesliga and UEFA Women's Champions League.
Bayern has only won two championships since the inception of the German women's league in 1990, finishing runner-up on four occasions. Gielnik adds power, strength and finishing ability to the squad. Her height, standing 1.83m tall, is seen as a bonus in a league that is known to attract some of the world's best defenders.
Gielnik had early success with Australian club, Brisbane Roar, before short stints with Liverpool (England), Ottawa Fury (Canada), Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) and Avaldsnes IL (Norway) before joining the Victory in 2018. She became a senior international in 2012. Notable highlights include contributing to 2016 Olympic Games qualification and the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup, where she appeared in three matches.
In 2019, Gielnik was named to the FIFA Women's World Cup squad, appearing in three matches for the Matildas (starting two). She has scored seven goals in 31 matches for her country and continues to impress in the national team setup.
