John Markovski was a cult hero in Australia's National Soccer League, during the late-eighties and nineties. Markovski played for a string of clubs spanning two decades, including Sunshine George Cross, Preston Makedonia, Melbourne Croatia (Knights), Marconi Stallions, Morwell Falcons, Canberra Cosmos, Carlton S.C., Perth Glory and the Football Kingz (New Zealand) among others.
A talismanic striker, Markovski made his mark at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, scoring a memorable goal against Sweden in the Olyroos' 2-1 victory. He represented Australia at A-international level from 1994 to 1998 and scored one goal, against Japan in 1995.
Markovski will always be remembered for his screamer while at Preston, where he took the ball from within his own half, hitting the back of the net from 40-yards to rapturous applause. This design celebrates an icon of his generation, the man they called, Jonesy.
