There is perhaps no imported player who has done more for Australian soccer than Ladislav "Les" Scheinflug. Scheinflug was born in Yugoslavia to German parents and came to Australia from Hanover, West Germany, just before Federation control took over in Sydney. He joined Sydney Football Club Prague as a left-sided forward and was immediately successful, winning four New South Wales premierships, including a hat-trick of titles from 1959 to 1961.

His first appearance for the national team came in 1959 against Heart of Midlothian – a heavy defeat. Scheinflug was captain in Australia's first FIFA World Cup qualifying games. He scored both goals in Australia's 9-2 aggregate loss to North Korea.

In his final years as a player, Scheinflug turned to coaching, ensuring he could continue to be involved in the game for many more years. In 1974, he assisted Rale Rasic at the World Cup in West Germany - Australia's first appearance at the Finals.

Scheinflug was voted Coach of the Year in 1979, guiding Marconi to the National Soccer League championship. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he coached several men's teams at national level, including interim roles when head coaches had been relieved of their duties. He took the Young Socceroos to the final four of the 1991 and 1993 Under-20 World Youth Championships and in 1999, coached the Joeys to the final of the Under-17 World Championship in New Zealand, losing on penalties to Brazil.

Now an octogenarian, Scheinflug actively watches the Australian game from the comfort of the sidelines. This design features a young Scheinflug attacking the ball in the colours of the great Prague club.
