The annual LES MURRAY CUP celebrates cultural diversity in Australia, bringing people of all ethnicities together in the spirit of the world game.
This t-shirt concept highlights refugees crossing the border as Les Murray did to flee communist Hungary in the wake of a revolution with the help of the Keresztes family and a man named Julius (Gyula) in 1956, while the Hungarian flag represents Les' heritage. Above the LES MURRAY CUP text is a signature of Les' birth name, László Ürge. The ball symbolises his love of o jogo bonito and on the shorts, the star of Botafogo - his favourite player being the Little Bird, Brazilian winger, Garrincha.
All profit from the sale of this t-shirt will be donated to the late Les Murray's favourite refugee charity, the UN Refugee Agency Australia for UNHCR.
Australia for UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency's national partner in Australia, raising awareness and funds to support UNHCR's global emergency response to humanitarian crises. It achieves this through the generosity of Australian individual donors, trusts, foundations and other organisations who donate to and partner with Australia for UNHCR to support its goals.
