Australia's first official international women's football match kicked-off on Saturday, 6 October 1979 at Seymour Shaw Park in Sydney. Since that day, the growth of women's football at national team level has coincided with a rise in girls playing the sport at the grassroots. It is safe to say, women's football in Australia has come a long way.

The Matildas, as they are known, have qualified for seven FIFA Women's World Cups in a row from 1995 to 2019, with their best finish (sixth) coming in 2007. Australia has produced a golden generation of talent over the past decade.

Historically, the Matildas had success in the Oceania confederation. However, now through Asia, they strive to become a powerhouse in the women's game. Australia's pioneering teams of the seventies look on with pride as women's football continues to excite the nation.

This design represents 40 years of hard work, desire and ambition. The green and gold imbued in our minds.

Go Matildas!
