Western Australian glamour side, Perth Glory, ended a finals hoodoo when they beat Sydney's Olympic Sharks 2-0 before a near sell-out crowd of almost 40,000 in the 2003 National Soccer League Grand Final. It was third time lucky for the Glory, who were defeated by Wollongong Wolves in 2000 and the Sharks in 2002.
Defender, Jamie Harnwell, gave Glory the lead on 29 minutes with an explosive header from a corner-kick. Striker, Damian Mori, put the issue beyond doubt with a second goal three minutes from full-time. Glory's Simon Colosimo was awarded the Joe Marston Medal.
The NSL champions would retain their title the following season in what would be the last before the formation of the A-League. This design pays tribute to a bold club that set the benchmark for the NSL, having only entered the competition in 1996.
