Yugoslav First League club, Partizan Belgrade, toured Australia in 1979. Partizan played a warm-up match against South Australia on 27 June (3-0) and two matches against Australia - the first in Newcastle on 29 June (1-1) and the second at the Sydney Sports Ground on 1 July (1-0).
The Newcastle match was marred when Australia's Tommy Cumming was decked by a Partizan player. Referee, Jim Reeves, decided to abandon play for 15 minutes after the Partizan bench stormed onto the pitch at half-time to confront him. It took some persuasion from Australian Soccer Federation officials to convince Reeves to continue play and the second-half concluded without any further incidents.
A goal by Aleksandar Trifunović on 16 minutes had Partizan in front before a penalty-kick, converted by Australia's Gary Cole on 44 minutes, levelled the match. One-all it would stay. Significantly, this would be Socceroos captain Peter Wilson's last international match after 114 appearances for his country.
Partizan would claim victory in Sydney by a goal-to-nil. Zvonko Varga scoring on 47 minutes after coming on a minute before for Boško Đorđević. This design includes the squad listed in the official match programme.
