There are few Australian captains, in any sport, that embody all that was Paul Wade on a football field. Wade was hard-working, fair and a leader in every sense of the word. His achievements have been well-celebrated by the football community, as his contribution to the game continues through his life coaching and media work.

Wadey had a remarkable international career including the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, two FIFA World Cup campaigns in 1990 and 1994, and one of the toughest tasks in world football, to mark Diego Maradona in the two-legged World Cup play off with Argentina in 1993.

He was born in Cheshire, England, and moved to Australia with his parents at age 11. By 1984, he attained Australian citizenship and represented Australia for the first time in Australia's B-side against Tasmania. That same year, he made his debut in the National Soccer League with the Green Gully Cavaliers. His club career was spent entirely in Australia.

The most successful period for Wadey in the NSL came between 1987 and 1995 at South Melbourne. He was named NSL Player of the Year in 1988 and won the league title in 1991. It was his second after winning the league with Brunswick Juventus in 1985.

In 1995, Wadey was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia and in 2000, he was inducted into Australian football's Hall of Fame. Over a decade, he made 84 appearances and scored 10 goals for the Socceroos.

This design is a tribute to Wadey's most famous Socceroos jersey, remembering his contribution as captain to the nation he calls home and the game he holds so dear, which includes the retro name and number 6 on the back plus captain's armband print across the left sleeve.
