Few players have achieved what Ray Richards has in the green and gold of Australia. Richards was an integral part of the Australian national team setup under coach Rale Rasic in the pursuit of FIFA World Cup qualification, which was achieved for the first time in 1973 for the 1974 tournament held in West Germany.
His club career spanned over 15 years, playing in central midfield for Latrobe and Hollandia in Queensland and Sydney Croatia, Marconi and APIA Leichhardt in New South Wales. Richards represented Australia from 1967 to 1975, playing all three group stage matches at the 1974 Finals.
Richards is a celebrated figure in the Australian game. He is part of a legacy that few may lay a claim. The pigeon-chested midfield enforcer will always be remembered for his iconic moustache - something only a distinguished gentleman can wear. This design includes Richards' retro number 6 on the back.
