The number 14 will forever be attached to Johan Cruyff and his performances in the 1974 FIFA World Cup, taking the Netherlands and their "totaalvoetbal" all the way to the Final. There were 16 nations competing in the tournament hosted by West Germany. Fifteen other number 14s.
Max Tolson claimed the shirt for Australia but did not get a run in the Socceroos' three group stage matches. East Germany's Jürgen Sparwasser, West Germany's Uli Hoeness and Chile's Alfonso Lara - opponents of the Socceroos - shared the number. Interestingly, Luis Garisto (the player who ended Ray Baartz's career prior to the tournament) had 14 on his back.
This design pays homage to the 14s of '74 - features WM 74 (left sleeve).
