The Australian Women's Soccer Association was formed in 1974. During 2001, the association changed its name to Women's Soccer Australia to fall in line with the national governing body, Soccer Australia. The association had been established by pioneers in the women's game from Canberra, Perth, Queensland and around the country.

WSA was wound up in 2003 after recommendations from what was known as the Crawford Report brought about sweeping reform in the game, headed by David Crawford and an independent review committee. Frank Lowy would take charge as chairman of a brand new governing body.

This design pays respect to all involved in women's football (soccer back then) at a time when the game needed countless volunteers, leadership and a voice for inclusion.
